Torch-applied or self-adhesive — which is better?

Torch-applied bonds harder and is the right answer on a large open terrace. Self-adhesive is used where an open flame is not acceptable — over occupied floors, near services, or on a small podium. We specify whichever the site allows.

How long does a bituminous membrane last?

Fifteen years and more when the overlaps and the parapet turn-ups are done properly and it is protected by a screed or mineral finish. Left bare and walked on, the same membrane can fail in two or three.

Can it be laid over the existing layers?

Only if what is underneath is sound and bonded. Where earlier coatings have delaminated they come off first — laying a new membrane over a loose one just buys a season.
